Season 4—Summer

While working on building his creativity, Cameron received notice that Monty Turner had passed away. Cameron was surprised to learn that Monty had a small insurance policy in his name. He hadn’t realized that the elder Turner had thought so highly of him. There was another policy for Gary, too. It was certainly more than his own father had left him, so Cameron was really touched.

Evan brought home a friend from school. Her name was Meadow, and she seemed nice. She was an Aquarius, like Evan’s Uncle Cameron. Evan wasn’t sure if he was interested in having a romance with her or not. He was more interested in learning than he was in girls, but every teenage boy still had a huge hormone rush when a cute teenager girl came by his house. Evan rationalized that she would probably at least be a fun person to hang out with since she was an Aquarius, so Evan invited her on an outing with him. They stopped by the grocery store and then went to a dance club before heading home. They had a rockin’ time together, so maybe she was worth getting to know better.

Gary brought home his friend Regina from the force. He’d decided that she was the right woman for him, so he tried a little bit of romance with her. He was rusty. It had been years since he’d tried to woo Evan’s mom, and he hadn’t been with any women since, but Regina responded to his advances all the same.

Seeing Evan with Meadow and Gary with Regina made Cameron feel very lonely. He knew he could call Tara for some cheap woohoo; heck, he’d probably even get another promotion out of it, but that didn’t even interest him anymore. He wanted to make up with Amanda. He loved her, and not even being her friend anymore was tearing Cameron apart. He picked up the phone and dialed her number.

“Hello,” Amanda answered.

“Don’t hang up, it’s me,” Cameron whispered with nothing but pure sorrow in his voice. He waited. She didn’t say anything, but there wasn’t the click of being hung up on either. They’d developed a steady pattern since he’d first apologized to her at her house. He would apologize over and over again, and she would just listen but never say anything. She was still furious with him, of that Cameron was certain. But, the fact that she didn’t kick him out of her house or hang up on him anymore did give him a glimmer of hope that maybe if he just apologized enough times, eventually she would forgive him.

“Amanda, I’m sorry,” he repeated the words he’d said at least a thousand times. “I’ll say it as many times as I have to until you believe me. I’m sorry.” Her silence continued. “Please . . . I miss you so much. Please, will you just come over? You can yell at me the whole time if you want to. Slap me again if it will ease your anger . . . just please . . . I have to see you.”

Cameron’s heart ached with every passing second of silence. It seemed to go on forever. There was a sigh. Finally she replied, “I’ll be right over,” and hung up the phone.

Cameron greeted her with another immediate apology.

“Amanda, I am so sorry. I know I messed up; I messed up everything. What we had was so good, and my mistake took that away from both of us. I was such a fool not to see it. I feel differently about you than I ever have about anyone else.”

She ignored him and blew off his apology. Nothing he said was making any impact.

“Amanda . . . I . . .I’m going to be honest with you . . . I hope you don’t hate me for it.” He was very anxious about this strategy, but simply apologizing didn’t seem to be working. He had to try something, and for once he felt like being truthful was the right things to do. He always lied and made up elaborate cons to convince the women he partied with to do him certain favors. Amanda was the first woman he had ever been himself with. He hadn’t put on an act for her, he’d simply been himself, and she’d seemed to actually like him. Maybe it was possible that if he opened himself and let her know the whole truth, she could accept him the way he was?

“I’ve been a womanizer my entire life. I never felt anything for Tara. I was just using her to try to get promotions. I know how awful that sounds, but it’s the truth. I . . . I was using other women, too. But, I never used you, Amanda. When I first met you I was going to con you. You dressed rich, you talked rich, and you acted rich, but once I found out about your situation . . . I really liked you, and I enjoyed spending time with you. You’re the first person that’s ever made me feel like I don’t have to hide who I am with you. I love you, and I NEVER meant to hurt you, but I know that I did, and for that I am truly, truly sorry.”

“Why should I believe that anything you’re saying is true?” she asked.

Cameron took a quick breath. It was an angry question, but she wasn’t yelling, and she wasn’t giving him the silent treatment anymore. It was the most progress he’d made. Maybe he was on the right track. “Because if I’m lying, that would mean that everything that we had was a lie. Every night we stayed up talking, every kiss, that feeling between us . . . all of that was a lie? I know you don’t believe that. What we had was real, and you know it.”

“I don’t know what to believe anymore,” she whispered.

“You know that you love me. You’re sure that part is real, aren’t you? And, you know that I love you. Come on, Amanda, look into my eyes. Can’t you see it? Can’t you tell that’s real love, not some act I’m putting on to get something out of you? Amanda . . .” he couldn’t help himself, he reached out and caressed her cheek. He felt so vulnerable right then. He longed to hold her in his arms. He just had to touch her. She let his fingers graze along her cheekbone and gently push aside a stray lock of hair before she jerked her head away.

She looked as though she wanted to burst into tears, hug him, and just forget that she’d ever seen him with Tara, but she wasn’t ready to let go of her anger quite yet. “You just told me that you’re a gigolo that cons money and favors out of women. I’m sure that you’ve gotten pretty good at faking love by now.”

“You’re right, I . . . you deserve better than me. I know I don’t deserve you. I don’t even deserve to have you listen to what I’m saying. I was stupid to think that . . . maybe . . . you could . . . It’s just that, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but now I’ve messed that up too, just like I’ve messed up everything else in my life. You should . . . just forget about me, Amanda. Pretend you never met me. You’d be better off if you never had.” He had to turn away. It hurt too much. Tears had started pooling in his eyes, and there was no way that he was going to let her see him cry. He had to get out of there. Maybe it was time to run anyway. He’d been on Emerald Isle too long already.

She reached for his arm and turned him around. He looked away so that she wouldn’t see the tears streaming from his eyes. “Don’t do that. Don’t put yourself down like that. I do love you, Cameron, and I want to forgive you . . .”

“You, you do?” he asked in disbelief.

“It’s just going to take me some time,” she replied. She gently wiped the tears from his eyes and leaned in close. It was like a magic force was pulling them together, and they kissed.

Things suddenly felt much better for Cameron. He kissed her again. He could accept still being in trouble, as long as he knew Amanda still loved him and that she was going to eventually forgive him.

“I’ve missed you,” he breathed into her ear as he continued to hold her close.

“I’ve missed you, too,” she said. “Even though I’ve been furious with you, this whole time I kept wishing that I could just talk things over with my best friend, Cameron. I know that’s silly, but you’re the only one that I feel like I can talk freely to.”

Cameron nodded. He knew exactly how she felt. That’s how he felt about her, too. She was the only one that seemed to just get him, and not judge him for who he was. “Do you think we could pretend that you’re not mad at me, just for tonight? We could just cuddle and talk . . . like we use to.”

“Yeah, I’d like that.”

“You would?” He smiled. He couldn’t believe that she was actually agreeing to spend time with him now. He’d let her see inside his soul, and she was still hanging around. He led her up to his room, and he cuddled her. He finally had her back in his arms.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

“You wouldn’t believe how much I’ve missed just having you in my arms,” he whispered. “This just feels . . . right.”

“Yeah,” she whispered with a sigh as she cuddled closer. They held each other in silence for a while, each in their own world of thought. Finally Amanda asked, “Are you going to be able to give them up?”

Cameron’s heart started pounding. “I thought . . . I thought we weren’t going to talk about that right now,” he could barely get the words out around the painful lump in his throat.

“I need to know, Cameron. I’m really close to giving my heart back to you, but I need to know if you’re going to break it again.”

Cameron’s jaw trembled. Had she just said that she was willing to take him back? Everything else seemed inconsequential compared to regaining her love. “I’ll give them up for you, Amanda. I can’t . . . I can’t change who I am . . . you have to understand that. If we’re going to do this you have to take me as I am, broken and all. But, I promise I’ll stop seeing other women if it will keep you in my arms.”

“I love you, Cameron, and I want to be with you. I know who you are deep down, and I love you just the way you are, but I don’t think I could take seeing you with another woman again.”

Cameron swallowed. It was against his nature to make a commitment, but he’d do anything for Amanda’s love. “I promise I won’t go on a date or woohoo with any other women anymore. I promise. Can I still con women at parties, though? That’s really my dream job.”

“As long as you don’t woohoo or take anyone home, I can accept it,” she agreed. He smiled. She did understand him.

“I want to start another rule with us. From now on, no more lies. You tell me everything, and I’ll be completely honest with you. I mean it Cameron. If you slip up . . . which, you probably will . . . I want you to tell me. If I ask you a question, I want an honest answer. I have to be able to trust you.”

“I promise, Amanda,” he pledged. He’d never been completely honest with anybody, but if Amanda was willing to accept him the way he was, he’d make and do his best to keep the promises she demanded of him.

**

Evan invited Meadow over after school the next day. She came over most afternoons, and Evan was starting to get a crush on her. She was a kinda cute girl. They were talking on the patio when Evan was struck with the urge to kiss her. It was his first kiss, so it was a little awkward, but Evan had witnessed enough kisses to know what to do.

Evan suddenly had visions of putting the moves on Meadow. Romance wasn’t that important to him, but he was a teenager, and Meadow was a hot girl that was kissing him. Nature took over. “So, ummm, you wanna go hang out upstairs? We could use my Uncle Cam’s room. He’s at work right now.”

Meadow agreed and followed him upstairs. Cameron had a very cushy double bed. Evan convinced her to relax on it with him. “So, you want to cuddle?” he asked her.

“No,” she said flatly. He was obviously disappointed. “I know what cuddling leads to, Evan,” she said with a laugh.

“Ohh,” he said. He hadn’t thought of what he would do if she wasn’t interested. “So, umm, we could talk.”

“Yeah,” she said.

He struggled as he tried to think of something they could talk about. “Nice weather today,” he tried.

“Uhhh, yeah,” she giggled. They both fell silent, simply staring off into space next to each other.

Evan was rather frustrated. He was about to suggest they go back downstairs when Cameron got home from work. He opened the door and just about fell over from shock.

“Gotta go,” Meadow said with a laugh as she flew out the door.

Evan was horribly embarrassed. He didn’t know how he’d lost track of time. His face turned blood red as he realized his beloved Uncle had just seen him crash and burn with Meadow.

“Were you just going to make out with her?” Cameron asked with surprise. He knew Evan was a teen, but that had happened faster than he had expected.

“I was going to, but she turned me down for even cuddling,” Evan admitted. He was rather ashamed of himself. “Sorry I was using your bed. Are you mad?”

“Mad . . . isn’t really the right word, Evan. No, I’m not mad. But, I’m concerned. Look . . . I think maybe I’ve set a bad example for you. Didn’t . . . didn’t Gary give you the whole birds and bees speech?”

Evan shook his head. He didn’t think he could talk to his dad about that sort of thing.

“Crap,” Cameron cursed his brother for not realizing that even young teens needed to know how to deal with their blossoming desires. He certainly wasn’t the one to explain this to Evan; yet, as things often went, here he was, the only one there to deal with it. “So, just because you’ve seen me bring a lot of women up here doesn’t mean that’s right for you, Evan. You’re still a teen, and beds are way off limits from now until you’re at least in college, got it? Besides, I thought you were focusing on learning right now anyway.”

“Yeah, sorry, Uncle Cam. It’s just, when I’m around Meadow . . . I want . . .”

“Make out with her on the couch, Ev. That’s much more appropriate.”

“She’ll just turn me down anyway,” Ev said, full of disappointment.

“Oh, don’t worry, I’ll teach you some moves she won’t be able to resist, if you PROMISE me to keep it on the couch.”

Cameron gave Evan some advice that he put to use right after school the next day. Cameron knew what he was talking about, and sure enough, Meadow couldn’t keep her hands off of Evan.

Gary had some good news. He’d been promoted to the chief of police. It was a job he’d had his eyes on for some time, and it came with a pretty hefty bonus check. Cameron received a promotion that day as well. Gary celebrated by taking Cameron, Regina, and a couple of guys from the force out for a drink at the local bar most of the policemen frequented.

Although Amanda and Cameron had made up, Jan was still furious with Cameron. Apparently she thought that stealing the newspaper and knocking over the garbage can was the best way to get even.

But, you know you are made for each other when you scold in unison.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Cameron’s promotion to Freelance Web Designer had come at the perfect time. He’d wanted money to buy something very special, but he didn’t really have much money of his own. He loved his career as a slacker, but the pay wasn’t that great. Sometimes he talked women out of some pretty sweet gifts, but this time he needed cold hard cash. The sign-on bonus he received for his new job was just enough to buy the item he’d been to the jewelry store ten times to stare at.

“Oh my God, Cameron, is that an engagement ring?” Amanda gasped.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

“Is that a no?” Cameron asked, his voice drowning in the rejection. He’d done this for Amanda, thinking that was what she wanted, but of course . . . of course she wouldn’t want to marry him. She’d come to her senses and realized how worthless he was.

“Ohhh, Cameron, are you sure? I mean, are you really sure you want to commit to me like that?” she asked as she slipped the ring onto her finger.

“Is that a yes?”

“Of course it’s a yes!” she exclaimed as she flung herself into his arms. “I love you, Cameron.”

Amanda immediately rushed over to tell the other important people in her life.

Gary and Regina had been dating for a long time, but finally, he had made her fall in love with him.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So, it was his turn to pop the question.

“Whoa, Gary, that’s a full carat isn’t it? Wow, it really sparkles. What clarity level is that?” Regina asked as she admired the ring in the sunlight.

“Do you like it?” Gary asked. She nodded. It was a very expensive and classy ring, and she did love Gary. They were well suited for each other.

“So, now that we’re engaged, I think you should meet my son, Evan,” Gary suggested.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

He wasn’t sure how it had happened. He’d started looking for a woman to be Evan’s new mom. How had he dated Regina for so long without even introducing her to his son? He knew Regina was agreeable to children. They’d talked about having kids of their own someday, but he really should have involved Evan earlier in their relationship.

“Evan, this is my fiancé, Regina,” Gary introduced them.

“Fi . . . fiancé?” Evan gaped. He’d seen Regina around, but he’d had no idea that his dad was seriously dating this woman. Evan suddenly realized how rude he was being, standing there staring at her with his mouth gaping open. He’d been raised to be politer than that. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Regina,” Evan said before shaking her hand.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Evan tried to talk to her to get to know her a little better. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem very nice and she wasn’t interested in anything he wanted to talk about. Evan was suddenly very worried. His dad was going to marry this woman, and she didn’t seem nice or understanding at all. What if she turned Gary against him? What if she moved in and was mean to him all of the time? What if she tried to make him move out of the house? He wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t want him around at all. Evan was scared of all of these possibilities, but his dad seemed so happy with Regina. He didn’t want to ruin his dad’s happiness.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Evan was even more worried when he learned that it was going to be an immediate wedding. Regina told Gary that she had quite a wedding dowry saved up and that she already had all of the details planned. It only took a few phone calls and everything was set up for the party.

Regina posed for her formal bridal portraits

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

while Gary asked Cameron to be his best man. It meant a lot to Cameron. He had never been close to his brother when they were kids. They had been at odds as teens. Yes, they had been living together for few years, but now Cameron realized that Gary had finally accepted him as he was. They were brothers, and for the first time in their lives, that actually meant something.

Cameron joined Evan and Gary on the groom’s side of the arch while the ladies waited to walk down the aisle.

Regina had asked Amanda and Alyssa to be her bridesmaids, just so the wedding party would looked balanced.

Amanda and Alyssa walked down the aisle.

And then it was time for “Here Comes the Bride.”

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Gary was relieved when Regina joined him at the arch. He wouldn’t be stood up at the alter. He knew that was an unlikely fear, but he’d been worried about it anyway. Having Regina at his side just felt right. He’d have a full family again in a few moments.

“Regina, with this ring, I thee wed,” Gary gave his vows.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Regina gave Gary her promises as well.

The crowd was pleased at the ceremony, but there was one very prominent missing guest. Amanda, the maid of honor, wasn’t even watching the ceremony.

They didn’t have a minister, but they followed a traditional ceremony. It was time to kiss the bride.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And here’s the happily married couple.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Immediately after the ceremony, Cameron slipped out to find out where Amanda was. He was surprised to find her in his room crying.

“Amanda, what’s wrong?” he asked.

“We’re . . . we’re never going to get married, are we? You asked me to be your fiancé, but you have no intentions of following through with it, do you? Seeing Gary and Regina get married made me realize that. We were engaged before them, and they’re already married, Cameron.” She was sobbing.

Cameron put his arms around her. “Amanda, I am going to marry you. I want you to be my wife more than anything. I thought knowing you, though, that you would want to take your time and plan the perfect wedding party. Was I wrong about that?” Cameron asked.

“No,” Amanda cried. “You’re right. I’ll need to give my friends enough notice so they can all make it to the wedding. I just . . . I guess I’m jealous that Gary and Regina are already husband and wife.” She put her head on Cameron’s shoulder and relaxed a little as he petted her hair.

“We will be, too, soon . . . soon, baby,” he comforted. “Come on. I know you love parties. Let’s go have a good time.”

Amanda and Cameron made it out just in time to catch the couple’s first dance.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The wedding party was asked to join in the dancing for the next song. Amanda and Cameron danced close. “That’s going to be us real soon,” Cameron whispered to the love of his life.

“I love you,” she said with a smile.

Finally, it was party time. Everyone got down to the beat.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The party went well into the night.

The night ended with the cutting of the cake and a few toasts

before it was time to make a break for the honeymoon.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Evan was stuck cleaning up the mess. Regina had told him that she wanted the house spotless when she came home from the honeymoon. She and Gary were both very neat sims, and they didn’t want to come home to a house full of trash and flies. The party trash was disgusting. Evan was exhausted and didn’t feel up to cleaning it up. There were even roaches getting into the trash. He certainly didn’t want to deal with those himself, but he knew Regina would freak out if she saw them, and he didn’t want to start things out on his stepmothers bad side.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Evan wasn’t feeling so good. He started coughing as he finished picking up the trash right before the newlyweds got home. His dad came and gave him a hug when he got out of the limo. At least his dad still loved him, for the time being anyway. But Gary started coughing right after the hug and Regina was only a few minutes behind. They were all sick with the flu.

It was completely against Gary and Regina’s natures to just lie still in bed. They had planned to have a romantic night together and then maybe spend the next day working out together. They followed doctor’s orders and stayed in the bed, though.

Evan was having a tougher time. The tightness in his chest was killing him. He tried to control his cough so that he wouldn’t keep his dad and Regina up while they were trying to rest, but holding the cough in just made it hurt more.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

He had a fever and chills, and he just couldn’t keep himself comfortable. He was restless and tired of lying in the bed worrying, so he finally gave up and went down to the couch. Cameron was down there already. He wanted to talk to his Uncle Cam about some of his worries, but he didn’t want to get him sick, so he was careful to sit on the opposite side of the couch.

“How are you feeling?” Cameron asked.

“Like crap,” Evan admitted.

“You just keep your germs over there then,” Cameron said. “No way am I getting the flu. I’ve been invited to a really happening party tonight, and I can’t afford to be sick.” He said it with a laugh, but Evan knew he was only half joking.

Cameron flipped on the television, and Evan tried to clear his mind and stop worrying. He was on a comfy couch with his favorite person to talk to. Uncle Cam had even put the channel on Evan’s favorite, the dance channel, for him. Still he felt miserable. He was beginning to realize that his misery might be more emotional than just physical.

“Uncle Cam,” he whispered.

“Yeah, bud?” Cameron responded.

“What do you . . . what do you think of Regina?”

Cameron lowered the volume on the television so he could hear Evan better. “She makes your dad pretty happy.”

“She isn’t very nice,” Evan whispered. He felt guilty for saying it, but it was true.

“She’s a lot like your dad—neat, active, a tad grumpy, into money—that doesn’t make her a bad person.”

Evan shrugged. He did love and admire his dad. Maybe he should like Regina more? Maybe he should be more like them? “Do you think . . . she wants to be a family . . . including me?” Evan dared ask.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

“Ev,” Cameron sighed. He suddenly realized Evan’s true concern. “Your dad wouldn’t have married someone that didn’t want to have you as part of the family.”

“He didn’t even introduce me to her until right before the wedding. What if she doesn’t want me around?” Evan asked. Pleasing his father meant everything to Evan. He tried to be perfect at everything for his dad. But, what if Regina convinced Gary that Evan just wasn’t good enough? What if they decided to have their own little perfect kids? What if she kicked him out of the house or just yelled at him all the time? Evan was so scared. “I know I’m not the kid her and dad want me to be, but I try . . . I try so hard, Uncle Cam. Do you think they’re going to let me stay?”

“Ev,” Cameron had to fight every instinct in him not to hug his sobbing nephew. But, he knew that if he did, he’d get the flu. “Evan, you are a great kid just the way you are. You don’t have to try to change yourself. Your dad loves you. I’ve talked to him. He loves you so much just the way you are. And, so do I. Regina is going to accept you. I know your dad wouldn’t have married her if she wasn’t okay with being a good stepmom to you. She maybe a little grumpy and anal retentive like your dad, but that does not mean that she doesn’t want you to be a part of the family. This must be a really scary time for you, but its going to be okay, Evan. Trust me, okay, it’s going to be okay.”

Evan nodded. He trusted his Uncle Cam. If he said it was going to be okay, then he would believe him.

“It’s time for me to leave for that party. Are you going to be okay, Evan?” Cameron asked. He REALLY wanted to go to the party, but in his heart he knew that if Evan said he needed him, he would give it up and stay for him.

“Yeah, I’m going to try and go back to sleep,” he whispered. He knew he needed the rest, and maybe his Uncle Cam’s reassuring words would drive the nightmares away.

That night Cameron reached his lifelong dream. He was officially a professional party guest. All he had to do was show up and people were handing him valuable presents and money left and right. He was getting paid just to party. He had Amanda, he had his parties, and he had a great family. Everything was perfect at that one moment.

When Cameron came home he was informed that the whole family was healthy again. He was finally able to give Evan that hug that he really, really needed.

Author’s Notes

When I started this I had not intention of letting Cameron get caught cheating, but I’m really glad he did now. The dialogue from that part of the story is heavily based on the dialogue from the real soap opera “Another World.” (It was my favorite soap opera moment, circa 1997).

Having the wedding was really fun. I finally got to use some of the stuff from the Celebration Stuff pack. I HATE the dresses in that pack and had to download some CC ones, which is so frustrating when you bought a wedding pack. The CC dresses are mostly from prenump sims and some from TSR. Anyway, the Celebration Stuff wedding items were actually quite nice and fun to play with, so I am glad I bought the pack after all.

I think/hope that Gary and Regina will have some really cute kids in the future.

  1. Nice wedding. I love the dress. I don't have weddings very often, so I'll have to get to Pronupsims before I forget. Poor, poor Evan. I want to hug him. Yay for Cam and Amanda. I was rooting for him. At least Evan and Meadow are getting along.

  3. I hope Regina and Evan hit it off better as time goes on. I'm glad Cameron finally opened up to Amanda--I think he'll shape up a bit now--at least I hope so! Oh, Evan--the ubiquitous Meadow Thayer!?!
